X Xu, « Internationalisation of higher education: what does it mean in the Chinese context? », Oxford Research Archive, ID : 10670/1.7f16a1...
This chapter delves into the multifaceted interpretations of ‘the internationalisation of higher education’ through a systematic review of 240 publications in Chinese and English. It discusses the diverse conceptions and misuses regarding ‘the West’ in current literature, and reveals Western hegemony in defining internationalisation within Chinese scholarly discourse. Moreover, the chapter explores distinct ‘Chinese characteristics’ of internationalisation by discussing four interwoven strands: educational, political, economic, and notably, cultural logics of internationalisation.
