The sick body (dying saints, martyrs of the catholic faith, ill and disabled poor and beggars...) has been frequently represented by the Spanish Painters of the XVI and XVIIth centuries; the various pathologies are rendered through the flesh tones; the colours, hues, pigments employed by the painters are those described in the art treatises of the period (white, yellow, cardeno -blue/purple/violet), and they may change according to the iconography, and the opposite principles of decorum and truth.Key words : colour ; flesh tone ; yellow ; white ; cárdeno ;Vicente Carducho ; Francisco Pacheco ; Antonio Palomino.
