Il existe une appropriation libertine de la métaphore du « théâtre du monde » et on en trouve des versions différentes chez Naudé et La Mothe Le Vayer. Surtout ce dernier, retravaillant des passages du pseudo-Aristote ( De mundo) et de Platon, a développé la métaphore pour dépeindre la condition de l’homme comme une marionnette entre les mains du Premier Moteur, ou comme un jouet du jeu des dieux. À l’arrière-plan, nous trouvons les lectures très différentes, presque opposées, du texte de Platon par deux auteurs de la Renaissance : Marsile Ficin et Pietro Pomponazzi. Finalement, un texte anonyme, clandestin, « radical » comme le Theophrastus redivivus (1659), donne une exégèse athée et politique du ludus pratiqué par les législateurs religieux

There exists an appropriation by the libertines of the metaphor that has it that all the world’s a theatre, and we can find different versions in the works of Naudé and La Mothe Le Vayer. The latter in particular, in his reworking of pseudo-Aristotle ( De mundo) and Plato, developed a metaphor that depicts the human condition as being similar to that of a puppet in the hands of the Primum Mobile, or as a toy in the games of the gods. We find in the background, readings of a very different nature, virtually opposite, of the Platonic text by two renowned Renaissance authors: Marsilio Ficino and Pietro Pomponazzi. Finally, an anonymous radical clandestine text such as the Thephrastus redivivus (1659), provides a political and atheist exegetical reading of the ludus as practiced by religious legislators.
