Il progressivo innalzamento dei livelli d’uso nei contesti urbani è un fenomeno ben documentato archeologicamente. A Ostia questo fenomeno assume una visibilità del tutto particolare. Le ricerche del Progetto Ostia Marina permettono di aggiungere ulteriori elementi di riflessione a questa complessa tematica. I dati disponibili riguardano in particolare il Caseggiato delle due scale, le Terme del Sileno, le Terme della Marciana e l’edificio IV, ix, 5. Le indagini hanno offerto nuove acquisizioni sulle prime fasi di urbanizzazione del quartiere, risalenti al I sec. d.C., poi obliterate dalle costruzioni successive. Le quote ottenute dallo scavo stratigrafico sono state confrontate con quelle ricavabili dagli edifici già scavati e hanno offerto l’opportunità di ricostruire un quadro più ampio e articolato del fenomeno.  

The increasing grow of use levels in urban contexts is an archaeologically well documented phenomenon. At Ostia this phenomenon takes on a very particular visibility. The research of the Ostia Marina Project offers further elements to this complicated issue. The new data concern the Building of two staircases, the Sylenus baths, the Marciana baths and the building IV, ix, 5. The archaeological investigations gave us new important acquisitions about the early phases of urbanization of the district, dating back to the 1st century A.D., then completely covered by subsequent constructions. The levels obtained from the stratigraphic excavation are here compared with those obtained from the buildings already excavated and offer the opportunity to reconstruct a broader and more articulated frame of the phenomenon.
