Résumé En

The poster provides a first overview of the wall ornaments uncovered during the recent archaeological excavations at Ostia Antica (September 2022). The research project, carried out by the University of Graz (Marcello Turci PI) in cooperation with Sapienza University of Rome (co-director Alessandra Ten), focused on a large suburban area, mostly known from geophysical surveys. They revealed the presence of monumental structures subsequently investigated through stratigraphic excavations. These consist of a large hall dating to the 3rd century AD, further flanked by an apse (Sector 1), and a complex sequence of water channels and rooms, including heated spaces (Sector 2), which can be dated from the 1st century AD onward. Both sectors yielded consistent finds, including several fragments of plasters from walls and ceilings. They constituted part of the rich decorative apparatus that characterized these rooms, alongside polychrome marble, glass paste and black and white mosaics.
