Le Texte d’orientation pour la catéchèse paroissiale de la conférence épiscopale du Pays-Bas est le fruit d’un processus de consultation et de travaux intensifs sur le terrain. Il reprend les théories actuelles de la catéchèse paroissiale et pose un choix radical en faveur du concept d’initiation comme le fondement de son renouveau.

The Oriëntatietekst voor de parochiecatechese (Orientation Text for parish catechesis) of the Dutch Bishops’ conference is the fruit of an intensive process of consultation and experimentation in the field. It picks up the latest theories of parish-based catechesis and makes a radical choice in favour of the concept of initiation as the foundation of its renewal. Contemporary culture is considered from a positive point of view, without thereby sacrificing a critical sense.Starting from the concept of initiation, the text draws three main priorities for the renewal of catechesis in the Netherlands: Christian communities understanding themselves as missionary, first announcement, and restructuring sacramental catechesis on a catechumenal basis.The Orientation Text opts for a differentiated approach to catechesis instead of choosing between adult or children’s catechesis, and encourages all partners in the catechetical process to assume their respective responsibilities. The guidelines of the Text go much further than the strict catechetical field: they point to developing a renewed presence of faith in our society and to initiating a new kind of pastoral approach.
