Résumé 0

In the immediate aftermath of World War II, France was the scene of an immigration of several tens of thousands of Jews from Central and Eastern Europe. Assistance to these migrants was then the exclusive responsibility of Jewish organizations that were already struggling to alleviate the distress of many of those assisted since the Liberation. This article offers an analysis of the actions undertaken by these associations to meet this daunting challenge. By paying specific attention to the relations between private organizations, the question is raised as to their capacity to provide assistance to vulnerable migrant populations in a context of division, lack of means and refusal of State intervention.
