Cet article entend restituer les itinéraires des instruments de physique saisis aux ennemis de la République à partir de l’été 1793. En suivant ces objets, de leur inventaire à leur redistribution en 1795, il est possible de comprendre leur rôle dans le projet républicain. Les instruments sont d’abord inventoriés avant d’être mis en dépôt, car ils sont considérés comme indispensables à la mise en place d’un enseignement scientifique encyclopédique et expérimental que la dégradation de la conjoncture militaire ne permet pas de réaliser. La maison d’Aiguillon, un hôtel particulier transformé en dépôt national de physique, devient alors une enclave instrumentale qui participe à la fonctionnarisation des métiers de la conservation du patrimoine scientifique. Enfin, la République thermidorienne opère une redistribution des instruments qui profite avant tout à l’École Polytechnique, l’établissement le plus prestigieux, et qui peut dès lors mettre en place un enseignement encyclopédique.

This article intends to reconstruct the itineraries of the physical instruments seized from the enemies of the Republic from the summer of 1793. By following these objects, from their inventory to their redistribution in 1795, it is possible to understand their role in the republican project. The instruments were first inventoried before being placed in storage because they were considered indispensable to the establishment of an encyclopedic and experimental scientific teaching that the deterioration of the military situation did not allow to be realized. The Maison d'Aiguillon, a private residence transformed into a national warehouse of physics, became an instrumental enclave that participated in the functionalization of the professions of conservation of scientific patrimony. Finally, the Thermidorian Republic redistributed the instruments to the benefit of the École Polytechnique, the most prestigious institution, which was then able to set up an encyclopedic teaching program.
