Florence Cabaret, « The Storyteller’s Staging in Some English-Language Indian Short Stories », Études anglaises, ID : 10670/1.84c6cc...
My selection of contemporary Indian short-stories stages various story-tellers who appear to be the emblems of both colonial and post-colonial contexts. I chose to go back to the Indian cultural taste for the tale as a discursive form and to use the distinction between the linguistic status of the teller equated to a speaker and that of the narrator equated to an enunciator so as to show how the coloniser’s language is being reinvested and reshaped by a tempo which may provide us with a key in our reading of ‘English-speaking’ Indian short-stories.
