Résumé 0

The anda of Ngazidja (in the Comores archipelago) is a cultural phenomenon, which throughout its history has created a strong social coherence through a series of services bringing together ail the members of the local community in a network of reciprocal obligations. The most obvious demonstration of this phenomenon known as the “great wedding,” the anda is often perceived as a ostentatious waste of money and its decline or even its disappearance has been predicted for some time. A description and analysis of the economie exchanges during the anda cycle allow to place them in their social context and allow to show that they are only the visible aspects of a system ruling life in a number of areas. The analysis eventually shows that the anda, despite appearances, also brings real economic and social benefïts.
