This paper intends to examine the travel writings of a few late eighteenth-century travellers to northern Europe, with a closer look at those of Mary Wollstonecraft and S.T. Coleridge who journeyed to Germany and Scandinavia at the end of the eighteenth century (1795 and 1798) as the routes to France and Italy were made increasingly perilous.
