Résumé 0

First of all we examine certain characteristics specific to contemporary art, starting from the triad linking the artist (in particular the visual artist), the work (called work of art), and the public (the “viewers”), with their more or less filtered interactions. Deconstruction, minimalism, and provocation on the one hand; disappointment or rejection on the other, are all approaches that have to be deciphered. At the same time, there has been a virulent proscription of any concern for beauty, accusations of academicism and then of arbitrariness by a series of avant-garde and art critics. However, the word and value have begun to reappear here and there in exhibitions and texts. Is this regression, outdatedness, or a sign of lack or of searching for something? We consider the meaning of the negation and resurgence of a controversial term linked to an indisputable experience. Will the art of the future be open to the risk of beauty?
