Modern livestock technology: The genetic improvement of cattle

This article highlights the complex and dynamic organization of selective cattle breeding. This activity—an upstream process in livestock production, and which is little known to the general public—is of particular interest for understanding the interweaving of the various technological, political, and socioeconomic elements at work in the livestock sector, which is currently undergoing major changes.

L’article met en lumière l’organisation complexe et évolutive de la sélection bovine. Cette activité en amont des productions animales est peu connue du grand public et présente un intérêt particulier pour comprendre l’intrication des éléments technologiques, politiques et socio-économiques du secteur de l’élevage en pleine mutation.
