Résumé 0

Undernutrition is a frequent problem in medicine. In practice, it concerns all physicians, whether they work in clinics, hospitals, or in health and social care facilities. In view of its harmful physiopathological consequences for individuals, undernutrition should be detected and screened for, particularly in certain high-risk situations (notably in the case of insufficient nutrition, or increased needs and losses); detection and screening should be performed systematically among older populations. A wide range of tools are available to the physician, including clinical examination data, anthropometric data (e.g., weight, BMI, skin fold measurements), biological data (primarily concerning albumin, transthyretin, and retinol binding protein), and composite indices and nutritional scores, including the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), the Nutritional Risk Index (NRI), the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA), the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 (NRS2002) scale, and the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST).
