Stéphane Rupa, « Vers une réappropriation du récit par ses acteurs dans le catch contemporain », Revue de recherche en civilisation américaine, ID : 10670/1.8djvcg
This is an analysis of the way the pro-wrestling industry promoted itself as a part of pop-culture during the last sixty years : from the birth of super-heroic characters known nationwide as Rikidōzan in Japan, El Santo in Mexico or Hulk Hogan in the US to the modern business strategy of WWE that purposefully turns its own history into a giant storyline similar to the day to day entertainment product it provides on TV. This study also covers the modern digital age of the pro-wrestling industry and how the world wide web created a whole new ecosystem of companies, products and people that counteracted this memory-based strategy and how the use of social-networking by pro-wrestlers themselves is now able to provide an alternative way of writing pro-wrestling history.
