Luxury : a borderline pathology ? A careful examination of the notion of the limit is central to understanding both the issues of luxury and that of contemporary psychopathology. Over the last fifty years, the question of the limit has unsettled the clinical framework of psychoanalysis, by adding a fourth item to the psychosis-perversion-nevrosis tripartite framework, but it may also provide with a key to better understand the malaise of the “globalized” society. The leads opened by Freud and Lacan, then taken up by Fethi Benslama on the issue of segregation, will be explored further and the social function of luxury in a society ready to yield to hyper-hedonism and globalization will be interrogated.

Le luxe : une pathologie de la limite ? Une prise en considération attentive de la notion de limite semble centrale pour comprendre à la fois la question du luxe et celle de la psychopathologie contemporaine. Au cours des cinquante dernières années, la question de la limite a bouleversé le tableau clinique de la psychanalyse, en ajoutant une quatrième organisation à la tripartition psychose-perversion-névrose, mais elle nous fournit peut-être également une clé pour mieux comprendre le malaise propre de la société « mondialisée ». Nous suivrons les fils laissés par Freud et Lacan, et repris par Fethi Benslama, au sujet de la ségrégation, et nous interrogerons sur la fonction sociale du luxe dans une société appelée par l’hyperjouissance et la mondialisation.
