À travers ce titre un peu provocateur et d’inspiration romantique, l’ambition de cet article est d’étudier les multiples rapports de Nerval au réel, en premier lieu la recherche d’une identité problématique, oscillant entre constamment entre le mythe et le néant, dans deux écrits : un texte non littéraire et non destiné à la publication : « la généalogie fantastique » et un célèbre poème nervalien El Desdichado, en second lieu dans le chapitre inaugural de Sylvie, intitulé « Nuit perdue » dans lequel Nerval représente sa vision de la « réalité quotidienne » comme une chute et une dimension insupportable. Ces trois études nous révèlent à la fois les sources profondes de la folie nervalienne et de sa création qu’elle soit littéraire ou non. Nous nous attarderons tout particulièrement sur les processus d’identification nervaliens, le travail de décomposition des mots et la façon dont le narrateur ou le poète se représente lui-même ainsi que ses relations à autrui. La recherche d’identité et la création sont ici étroitement mêlées.

Through this bit provocative and romantic title the aim of this article is to study the multiple relations of Nerval with « reality »; first in the research of a problematic identity, always oscillating between myth and nothingness, in two writings: a non-literary text, not written for publication « The fantastic genealogy » and probably the most known poem of Nerval El Desdichado; in a second place in the first chapter of Sylvie called « Nuit perdue » (« lost night ») in which Nerval represents his vision of the daily life as a fall and an unbearable dimension. These three studies reveal both the deep sources of Nerval « madness » and of his creation (literary or not). We shall especially analyze the identification process of Nerval, his work of splitting the words in order to find a truth, and the way the narrator or the poet represents himself and his relations to others. Research of identity and creation are here deeply linked.
