Résumé 0

This paper analyses the role of the port of Alexandria during the Egyptian Campaign. Home port of the fleet (what is left after the Aboukir battle), Alexandria becomes the strategic pivot of the French disposition of forces. It is the logistic bridgehead as the node of communications between Egypt, the other French positions in the Mediterranean and France. It is also used to support land operations in Egypt and Syria. For this reason the port administration is constantly watched over and adapted, as with the creation of the “Préfecture maritime” (port administration center).
