À Seattle comme à Gênes et à Porto Alegre, la composante italienne du mouvement No-Global est importante. Andrea Fumagalli reconstruit la genèse du mouvement des mouvements en Italie en analysant trois éléments fondamentaux : les centres Sociaux Occupés Autogérés, les revues critiques nées dans les années 1990, le développement de la musique underground. Après Gênes et New York, et face à l’offensive du gouvernement Berlusconi, le mouvement en Italie semble être traversé par une crise profonde, mais la manifestation du 20 juillet 2002, précise clairement la nature de la crise comme un hiatus entre multitudes et représentation-organisation des mouvements antagonistes.

At Seattle, as at both Genoa and Porto Allegre, the Italian component of the Anti-globalisation movement was significant. Andrea Fumagalli reconstructs the genesis of the movement in Italy through an analysis of three of its fundamental elements: the network of Social Centres; the critical reviews born in the 1990s; the development of underground music. After Genoa and New York, and faced by the Berlusconi government’s offensive, the Italian movement seemed to be riven by a profound crisis, but the demonstration of 20 July 2002, clarified the nature of the crisis as a gap between the multitudes and the representation-organisation of the antagonistic movements.
