Cette photographie présente quatre personnes des 38 participants à l’exposition « This Is Tomorrow », qui, en ayant eu lieu à la Whitechapel Art Gallery en aout 1956, consacra l’avènement du pop art. Elle servit de couverture au catalogue d’exposition. Les participants étaient divisés en 12 groupes où se mélangèrent architectes, théoriciens, artistes et designers, afin de fusionner plusieurs approches disciplinaires dans la réalisation d’un environnement pensé comme une réponse au titre de l’exposition. Cette photo présente le groupe 6, composé du couple d’architectes Alison et Peter Smithson, du sculpteur Eduardo Paolozzi, ainsi que du photographe et artiste-collagiste Nigel Henderson. L’œuvre qu’ils présentèrent, « Patio and Pavilion », « était une structure à trois murs avec un toit en plastique ondulé et entourée d’un patio de sable. This photograph shows four of the 38 participants in the “This Is Tomorrow” exhibition, held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in August 1956, which marked the advent of pop art.
