Résumé En

focussing on the activity of a funeral area between the 4th and 10th centuries on the archaeological site of Saint-Romain-en-Gal (Rhône, France), at the gates of the ancient city of Vienne (Isère). This work was carried out by the département’s team of archaeologists on the site from 1981 to 2012, with the participation of agents from the Institut National de Recherches Archéologiques Préventives (The National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research - INRAP, formerly AFAN) the contribution of personnel from the CNRS for the anthropological studies, and the voluntary investment of a former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris (ENS).The results are presented in thematic sections. The variety of remains discovered explains why the majority come from the archaeological studies of the site and that of the main funeral structure and its original mosaic. This work is supplemented by a study of the plaster from the ceiling of the building. Moreover, the artefacts revealed during the excavations were analysed and grouped into chronological sequences. This necessary study is also included. An analysis of the material remains is followed by an anthropological study of the exhumed deceaseds, a study of the remains of animal bones associated with the graves and a study ofthe written sources relating to Saint Ferréol, a martyr from Vienne buried on the same bank of the Rhône in the early 4th century.
