Michael Maurachers dokumentarische Autobiographie. Michael Maurachers fotografisches Œuvre mag schmal erscheinen : drei veröffentlichte Bücher. Es ist allerdings bedeutungsschwer und rührt zutiefst an die großen Fragen, die der Einsatz der Fotografie jenen stellt, die sie praktizieren. Bei Maurachergibt es ab dem Augenblick, in dem ihn das Medium fasziniert - er sagt, das reiche in die Kindheit zurück -, das Gefühl, dass mit der Fotografie sich für den, der das Bild ansieht oder auf¬ nimmt, die Suche nach einem Ursprung oder vielmehr nach Ursprüngen entscheidet/abspielt. Denn vermittelt über die Familiengeschichte, die die Orte seiner Kindheit, das Dorf Hippach im Tiroler Zillertal skizzieren, löst sich nichts nur fotografisch auf : seine eigene Geschichte und jene der Welt.

The documentary autobiography of Michael Mauracher. The photographic work of Michael Mauracher may seem short with only three books published. It is yet fraught with meaning and deals with the great issues raised by the use of photography for those practicing it. There is with Mauracher, from the moment where he is fascinated by the medium (he says that it goes back to childhood and the photographic family portraits which surrounded his everyday environment) the feeling that with photography lies research, for the one who looks or takes the image from an origin, or rather from the origins. Because, through the family saga that the places of his childhood outline, such as the village of Hippach in the Tyrolean Valley of the Ziller, nothing is solved but photographically for Michael Mauracher : his own history, just as the history of the world.

L’œuvre photographique de Michael Mauracher peut paraître courte : trois livres publiés. Elle est pourtant lourde de sens, et touche profondément aux grandes questions que pose, pour celui qui la pratique, l’usage de la photographie. Il existe chez Mauracher, dès le moment où le medium le fascine - cela, dit-il, remonte à l’enfance et aux portraits photographiques familiaux qui bordaient son environnement quotidien - le sentiment qu’avec la photographie se joue la recherche, pour celui qui regarde ou prend l’image, d’une origine ou, plutôt, des origines. Car, à travers le roman familial que dessinent les lieux de son enfance, le village d’Hippach, dans la vallée tyrolienne de la Ziller, rien ne se résout, pour Michael Mauracher, que photographiquement : sa propre histoire, comme celle du monde.
