Résumé 0

Forced Labor of Romanian Jews (1940-1941)This article deals with the legislative stages of the years 1940-1941 during which the Jews of the Old Romanian Kingdom were gradually subjected to common-interest labor which later turned into forced labor. An increasing number of Jews would be employed to perform tasks that became more and more difficult. In addition to this punishing work, they were obliged to pay high taxes. Jewish men were not allowed to serve in the army when the State, headed by Marshal Antonescu, deployed its troops on the Eastern front. As a result of the new economic system, the impoverishment of Romanian Jews was another step towards their deportation to Transnistria, while any tentative of real or alleged infringement in carrying out forced labor was penalized.
