This study has a twofold objective: by attempting to interpret the theme of the «inhabitant of the world» in Kant's philosophy, it seeks to give a demonstration of the fecundity of a method of philosophical interpretation which consists in isolating a particular problem and in studying it in its autonomous temporal development. The interpretation examined in it consists in trying to understand it by situating it at the meeting-point of three major Kantian undertakings, which are (1) the elaboration of an epistemology of geographical physics that necessarily contains an examination of the modalities of existence of man on Earth; (2) the constantly re-examined project of refuting idealism, which leads to defining man in his belonging to the world as a «being in the world» (Weltwesen); (3) the constitution of a pragmatic anthropology which, while unifying the foregoing topics, broadens them by integrating them into the perspective of the practical destination of man, upon whom falls the task of realising the conditions of his worldly existence as a moral agent (transl. by J. Dudley).

Cette étude poursuit deux objectifs: en se consacrant à un essai d'interprétation du thème de l' «habitant du monde» dans la philosophie de Kant, elle s'efforce de donner une démonstration de la fécondité d'une méthode d'interprétation philosophique qui consiste à isoler un problème particulier et à l'étudier dans son développement temporel autonome. L'hypothèse de lecture qui y est examinée consiste à tenter de le comprendre en le situant au croisement de trois grandes entreprises kantiennes, qui sont (1) l'élaboration d'une épistémo- logie de la géographie physique qui comporte nécessairement un examen des modalités d'existence de l'homme sur Terre; (2) le projet constamment remis en chantier d'une réfutation de l'idéalisme, qui conduit à définir l'homme par son appartenance au monde en tant qu'«être-du-monde» (Weltwesen); (3) la constitution d'une anthropologie pragmatique qui, tout en unifiant les thématiques précédentes les élargit en les intégrant dans la perspective de la destination pratique de l'homme auquel incombe la tâche de réaliser les conditions de son existence mondaine d'agent moral.
