This paper proposes a discussion on several research practices and on the way in which the projects asked two questions related to the subject of the alert to the population sent by the authorities in France: 1) Would we have done our work differently without this funding, and 2) To what extent were the research orientations conditioned by the calls for projects? The answers, both positive and negative, remain rich in lessons. On the one hand, the calls allow us to assert our position, to emphasize the importance of spatial and territorialized approaches, and to broaden the focus of analysis by taking better account of user neéd and multidisciplinary perspectives. On the other hand, our research comes up against operational realities and political decision-making processes, which constrain several questions and place research in the role of expert or mediator. More than the production of new knowledge, the difficulty for our future work is ultimately to find the best place between accompanying the actors of alert in the future and the epistemological questions raised by our line of thinking.
