Résumé 0

The history of nurseries marks a fundamental tension between health and educational progress on the one hand, and the intention to set a standard on the other. The nursery has participated in the institutional production of childhood and its representations, contributing to the recognition of the child as a subject. But the contemporary guidelines on early childhood policies as well as new moral endeavors question the pitfalls and ambiguities of the rhetorical fight against poverty and school failure, of equal opportunities, and of “high educational quality,” in particular positive parenting, which is developing in terms of neuroscience. Is the child, who used to be conceptualized in terms of the digestive tract, at risk today of being reduced to a brain?
