The paper explores the historical significance and overlooked complexity of the Sammelband, a book form particularly common in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries that combined different editions within one binding. It argues that Sammelbände shaped early book ownership, reading practices, and publishing economics. Yet, digital cataloging and historical biases often obscure its importance.

Cet article explore l'importance historique et la complexité méconnue du Sammelband, une forme de livre particulièrement répandue aux XVe et XVIe siècles qui combinait différentes éditions au sein d'une même reliure. Il affirme que les Sammelbände ont façonné la possession de livres, les pratiques de lecture et l'économie de l'édition. Pourtant, le catalogage numérique et les préjugés historiques occultent souvent son importance.
