Résumé En

The purpose of this contribution is to discuss the biblical citations in Heb 2:12-13 to better understand the hermeneutics of the author of Hebrews. The passage contains three combined citations taken from two different passages, Ps 21:23 LXX (22:23 MT) and Isa 8:17-18 LXX. The discussion centers on how these citations fit in the flow of the epistle s argument and how the author saw the connection between them. The study suggests that we need to develop approaches that sharpen our understanding of what "context" means in the author s own hermeneutical horizon. I argue that the context in the light of which the author interpreted these verses is primarily a theological one, and while it incorporates elements of the historical and literary contexts of the verses, it must be treated according to its own specificities.
