Résumé 0

Philippe Joutard’s words, collected in two interviews (October 4 and December 12, 2012), extensive extracts from which are released in this paper, are living witnesses of the originality of a great historian’s path, of an academic devoted to the defense of social history, and of a discipline to be enhanced through teaching and education. A brilliant and inventive mind who innovated through his choices of objects of study (including the Légendaire Camisard, images of mountains and imaginary worlds, World War II, the Mediterranean, religious studies, and anthropological and historical memories), Joutard founded the French school of oral history and at the same time contributed to creating a multidisciplinary and open research tradition, initiating and contributing to the dynamics of Aix-en-Provence University, which remain very lively.
