Résumé
In Southeast Asia, the middle of the first millennium BC saw increasing interregional exchanges. Both the Thai-Malay peninsula (hereafter TMP) and the Mekong delta regions (Giong Phet and Giong Ca Vo) were major nodes for early trading networks and show evidence for close ties. Major settlements structures have been excavated in Óc Eo emphasizing further the sophistication and complexity of this culture and its polity. There is comparatively fewer comprehensive research in early historical TMP sites. In both regions, the political and economic level of centralization, the polities respective spheres of influence and networks, their respective relations are fields for research. This very preliminary article lists some of the available evidence of connections between the two regions from the last centuries BC to the early centuries CE by type or class of archaeological material (ceramics, glass, semi-precious stones, metals and Roman or Roman-inspired materials) and suggests possible avenues for research. It emphasizes the connections between the two regions, their simultaneous developments and unravels the prospect of promising research.
