Η επιγραφή ανακαλύφθηκε στο μοναστηριακό συγκρότημα του Αρχαγγέλου, κοντά στο χωριό Cemil στην Καππαδοκία. Είναι γραμμένη σε μία μόνο σειρά, στις δύο πλευρές μιας κόγχης, στο εσωτερικό της αψίδας του νότιου κλίτους του ναού. Στην επιγραφή αναφέρονται ο ιερομόναχος Βαρθολομαίος και ο διάκονος Λέων. Ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζει το όνομα του ζωγράφου, Αρχιγέτας, το οποίο συγκαταλέγεται μεταξύ των πρωιμοτέρων σωζόμενων υπογραφών ζωγράφων του 13ου αι. Η επιγραφή χρονολογείται το 1217/8, επί της βασιλείας του αυτοκράτορα της Νίκαιας, Θεοδώρου Α΄ Λάσκαρη. 

The inscription was discovered in the Archangel monastery complex, near the village of Cemil in Cappadocia. Written in a single line on both sides of a conch inside the apse of the south aisle of the church, it refers to the hieromonk Bartholomew and the deacon Leo. Particularly interesting is the existence of the name of the painter, Archigetas, which is one of the earliest surviving signatures of thirteenth-century painters. The inscription is dated 1217/8, and falls in the reign of Theodore I Laskaris, Emperor of Nicaea.
