This ethnography of a charismatic group in French Polynesia aims to shed light on the patterns of authority and commitment within such informal religious spaces connected to the global economy of charismatism. Through analysis of the personal itineraries of several members of ‘Jean’s group’ and through the observation of a march organized by the group in question in January 2012, I question the apparent paradox of a group infused with a charismatic culture full of prophets and apostles, but which is practically devoid of any formative authority.

La présente ethnographie d’un groupe charismatique de Polynésie française veut éclairer les modes d’autorité et d’engagement dans ces espaces religieux informels, en lien avec l’économie globale du courant charismatique. Par l’analyse des itinéraires personnels de plusieurs membres du « groupe de Jean » et l’observation d’une marche organisée par ce groupe en janvier 2012, l’auteur interroge l’apparent paradoxe d’un groupe imprégné d’une culture charismatique peuplée de prophètes et d’apôtres, mais quasiment dépourvu de toute autorité structurante.
