L a Recherche du Temps Perdu fourmille de métaphores. Parmi celles-ci, la métaphore médicale. Bien plus que la réalité des « étouffements » dont souffrait son Auteur, c’est l’identification nieztschéenne du Narrateur au médecin expérimentateur, comme paradigme de la recherche de la vérité, qui paraît être au cœur d’une démarche qui, sans jamais s’y référer explicitement, s’apparente à l’auto-analyse. Elle amènera le génie de l’Auteur-Narrateur aux confins de la monstruosité, que ce soit dans son expérimentation sur lui-même de la maladie amoureuse, ou dans sa conception de la création littéraire comme une gestation parthénogénétique et hermaphrodite, visant à reconstruire, sans fin et sans limite, un corps constamment en voie de dissolution, de la madeleine au pavé inégal, éclairant ainsi pour nous certaines des voies les plus obscures de la sublimation.

Literary gestation in Proust’s ‘In Search of Lost Time’. Proust’s In Search of Lost Time abounds with metaphors, among which metaphors of a medical nature. Much more than the physical reality of the suffocating asthma attacks from which Proust suffered, it is the Nietzschean identifications of the narrator with the experimenting doctor, as a paradigm for the quest for truth, which lie at the heart of Proust’s approach, an approach highly comparable with that of self-analysis, although this is never explicitly referred to. This leads the Author-Narrator in his imaginative genius to the confines of monstruosity, whether it be in his self-inflicted experiments in the field of love sickness or his conception of literary creativity as a parthenogenetic, hermaphrodite gestation whose aim it is to tirelessly, limitlessly rebuild a body permanently in a state of progressive dissolution, from the madeleine to the uneven paving stone, thus shedding new light for us on some of the most dark and mysterious convolutions of the sublimation process.
