André Green’s 1970 report marked the return of affect to the heart of the history and practice of psychoanalysis. Since then, the work of Annie Reich and Paula Heimann has enabled the theorization of countertransference to evolve through approaches that are at once creative, profound and sincere. To rediscover this counter-transference in himself, the analyst must engage in intense psychic activity: it is by becoming sensitive to his own unconscious that he will be able to transform it within himself and arrive at an interpretation that is faithful to the analytical doxa.
