The subject of career patterns among those who held office in the central convents of the Temple and Hospital in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries has recently been discussed by Jochen Burgtorf, but comparatively little has been written about the careers of Templars and Hospitallers who held posts in western provinces and priories during that period.
