Theory of land drainage under unsteady flow conditions. The fundamental problem in land drainage is how to space drains laid at a given depth in such a way as to depress the water table below a certain level within a given time. The Author puts forward a theoretical solution for the problem, which he arrives at by considering the free surface movement of a cylindrical water table of infinite extension with an unsteady flow regime, and by making certain generally acceptable practical approximations. This solution is then applied to agricultural land drainage problems, giving numerical examples.

Le problème fondamental du drainage des terres est de déterminer l'espacement des drains, situés à une profondeur donnée, pour que la surface de la nappe soit abaissée au-dessous d'un certain niveau en un temps donné. Partant de l'étude du mouvement de la surface libre d'une nappe cylindrique d'extension infinie en écoulement non permanent et moyennant certaines approximations acceptables en pratique, l'auteur apporte une solution théorique au problème ainsi posé. Application en est faite, avec exemples numériques, au drainage des terres agricoles.
