The linguistic hosting project developed in Brazilian public universities is an opportunity for migrating families to learn the Brazilian national language, Brazilian Portuguese. In this context, the increased migratory flow into our territory generates vast linguistic and cultural diversity in communication demanding situations, which brings closer the concept of Portuguese as host language from the pretext of multilingualism didactics (CANDELIER et al. 2007), - a perspective that emphasizes the plurilingual and multilingual interaction of migrants in real communication situations. In this regard, our objective consists of pondering on the relation between the plurilingual perspective and the concept of Portuguese as host language. From the theoretical-conceptual debate of authors such as Grosso (2010) and Ruano (2019), we start from the following question: how does multilingualism interacts with the Portuguese and Brazilian definitions proposed by the concept of host language and adds a theoretical-methodological perspective to the instruction-learning demands of Brazilian Portuguese? From Zarate et al. (2008), Melo-Pfeifer (2018) and Calvo del Olmo; Escudé (2019), such relations are brought into light, without losing sight of the linguistic hosting projects specificities: the target group’s profile, the student-language relation, the multidisciplinary approach, the school space, and cultural environment-related education. It is expected that a dialogue will be established, which will enable a sharpened view of the concept, from a plural and equal perspective of the language instruction-learning relation which includes the recognition and assertion of minority groups. From a more general perspective, we expect to contribute to a richer theoretical discussion in this field of investigation.
