The environment joined the ranks of a journalistic speciality in the early 2000s. This institutionalization was objectified in the growth of the editorial space allocated to the subject, and resulted in a new division of journalistic work that spawned services devoted to environmental news. This means that journalists enter the speciality to produce additional news on the environment. Compared to those who already (by conviction) followed this news, these “new arrivals” have a different approach to ecology. They favour subjects of consensus and ones that serve to illustrate. At the same time, the social worlds concerned by the production of environmental news are undergoing changes conducive to the prevalence of deconflictualized views of the environment.

L’environnement accède au rang de spécialité journalistique au début des années 2000. Cette institutionnalisation s’objective par l’accroissement de l’espace rédactionnel alloué à cette thématique. Elle se traduit par une nouvelle division du travail journalistique au sein de laquelle, naissent des services dédiés à l’environnement. Des journalistes entrent ainsi dans la spécialité pour produire ce supplément d’information environnementale. Relativement aux journalistes qui suivaient déjà (par conviction) cette actualité, ces « nouveaux entrants » se révèlent différemment prédisposés à l’égard de l’écologie. Ils privilégient les sujets consensuels et illustratifs. Conjointement, les univers sociaux concernés par la production de l’information environnementale connaissent des modifications sociales propices à l’imposition de visions déconflictualisées de l’environnement.
