The rule of market and that of democracy do not complement one another, but conflict. The political strategy of financial monopoly capital deprives the contrast between the right and the left from its meaning in the working of democracy. It replaces the central recognition of the conflict of class interests by that of so called “communities”. At global level that strategy abolishes the sovereignty of the Nations of the South and annihilates their capacity to become active partners in the shaping of the global system. There is no alternative for the reconstruction of a pluricentric global order and democratic advances other than restoring international law, scoffed at by the “international community”, in fact restricted to the major imperialist powers.

Marché et démocratie ne sont pas complémentaires, mais antinomiques. La stratégie politique déployée par les monopoles financiarisés abolit le contraste droite/gauche qui donnait son sens à la démocratie. Elle lui substitue la recherche d’un prétendu consensus, négateur de la centralité des conflits d’intérêt de classes au profit de celle de l’affirmation d’« identités » communautaires. À l’échelle mondiale cette stratégie abolit la souveraineté des nations et récuse la volonté des peuples du Sud de s’ériger en acteurs dans la construction du monde. La réhabilitation du droit international, bafoué par la « communauté internationale » réduite aux puissances impéria-listes majeures, est la condition incontournable de la construction d’un monde pluricentrique pacifié et d’avancées démocratiques.
