La Chine et l’Afghanistan dans la période post-11 septembreSeen from Europe, the People’s Republic of China has little visibility on the Afghan scene. Yet since 2001, it has been very active in this country. Beijing soon set up a policy of pragmatic engagement with the new administration of Afghanistan. The contacts and the bonds which it developed soon began to bear fruit. Leaning on its international status, but also on the development of political relations, assistance with the rebuilding of the country, economic exchanges, investments, and the reinforcement of communication and transportation routes, China during recent years has quietly succeeded in becoming an important actor in Kabul. This new development reflects the more general rise to power of China at the heart of the Eurasian continent, a fact which it will henceforth be necessary to take into account.

Pourtant, depuis 2001, elle a été très active dans ce pays. Pékin a très tôt mis en place une politique d’engagement pragmatique à destination de la nouvelle administration de l’Afghanistan. Les contacts et les liens qu’il a développés ont rapidement commencé à porter des fruits. En s’appuyant sur son statut international, mais aussi sur l’essor des relations politiques, sur l’assistance à la reconstruction, les échanges économiques, les investissements et le renforcement des voies de communications, la Chine a tranquillement réussi ces dernières années à s’imposer comme un acteur de poids à Kaboul. Ce développement inédit ne fait que refléter la montée en puissance plus générale de la Chine au cœur de l’Eurasie, un fait avec lequel il faudra dorénavant compter.
