The entry of two insular micro-States, Cyprus and Malta, into the European Union is a risk for the European institutions stability, and might bring frustrations among the other islands which have been fastened to continental States. Admittedly, the UE strengthens its place in the international sea trade and its influence in the Mediterranean Sea, but the island's weak economies and chiefly the political partition of Cyprus cause worries.
