According to the traditional view, the Wu language is different from other Sinitic languages by preserving tonal system and the voicing realization of Middle Chinese. This recent study zooms in on Wu spoken in the Suzhou City. An analysis of diachronic evolution of Chinese language is presented to understand the difference between Wu and Mandarin. The phonological system of occlusives of Suzhou Wu is also presented and examined with minimal pairs and the tonal system is described after the acoustic experimentation.
