Résumé 0

In the French Overseas Territories, French housing policies are applied. In each territory, modes of dwelling and local architectures adapted to their specific environment are used in everyday life. Like everywhere in the world, the impact of architectural modernization, functionalism and all-concrete on the ways of life is considerable. First, we see that French urban policies in the French Overseas Territories impose a polluting housing model that constrains the ways of life of the tenants. Second, we show that this model opposes the houses built by the local network of builders with local materials like wood and sheet metal. Third, we consider the “adapted” housing policies established in the 1970s and 1980s and then abandonned.
