L’article analyse le statut épistémologique de la médecine tel qu’Avicenne le définit dans son Canon de la Médecine ainsi que la relation entre la médecine et la philosophie naturelle. Le médecin doit accepter certaines choses qui ont été établies par la philosophie naturelle et l’âme nutritive fait partie de ces choses. La question est de savoir si l’explication mécanique de la nutrition, offerte par la médecine, est subordonnée à son explication formelle donnée par la philosophie naturelle, et si, par conséquent le traitement des facultés psychiques dans le Livre de l’âme est le fondement théorique des investigations médicales du Canon.A. The article analyses the epistemological status of medicine as defined by Avicenna in his Canon of Medicine and the relationship between medicine and natural philosophy. The physician must accept certain things that have been established by natural philosophy, and the nutritive soul is one of these things. The question is whether the mechanical explanation of nutrition offered by medicine is subordinate to its formal explanation given by natural philosophy, and whether, therefore, the treatment of the psychic faculties in the Book of the Soul is the theoretical foundation of the medical investigations of the Canon.A.
