This paper covers three embodiments of jazz music: the 1930s in Great-Britain, the period between 1955 and 1966 in Great-Britain and the US, and the early 1980s in the US. Musicians, singers, and the public made jazz a popular culture coming directly from below. Today other forms of music have taken this role.
