Il contributo si focalizza sulle modalità e finalità di frequentazione che in antico hanno interessato il sito in cui sorge il complesso monumentale di Sant’Ippolito all’Isola Sacra, al fine di comprenderne il suo impianto e la successiva articolazione. Una sintesi delle evidenze archeologiche dell’area, che testimoniano le sue trasformazioni d’uso e di destinazione ma anche le persistenze che hanno dato esito allo stato attuale dei luoghi, riporterà alla luce problematiche interpretative più o meno note sul contesto in esame, per le quali si proporranno delle nuove chiavi di lettura e spunti di riflessione attualizzandole nel dibattito scientifico attuale.

The paper focuses on the modality and purposes of frequentation that in ancient times have interested the site where stands the monumental complex of St. Hyppolitus at the Isola Sacra, in order to understand its setting and the subsequent articulation. A synthesis of the archaeological evidence of the area, which testifies its transformation of use and destination, but also the persistence that gave rise to the current state of the places, will bring to light more or less known interpretative issues regarding the context under examination, for which new keys to interpretation and insights will be proposed, updating them in the current scientific debate.
