Résumé 0

"This article explores the relation between the official history of different countries and its underlying nationalism, and their respective national anthems. National anthems are one of the major symbols in a nation that embody those political, historical, ideological, and—in the extreme end—partisanship contents. Thus, it can simultaneously reflect the country’s historical course (the official version, that is), the endorsed/predominant religion, a political rule type, a political or social ideology, and even some of the domestic or international challenges it currently faces. A wide (but not comprehensive) comparison is also made of what a national anthem may stand for as a patriotic or ideological symbol, and its particular relation with the historical trajectory of each country as a source of nationalism in its expression of political modernity, or as a mere aspiration to configureitself as a free-standing nation."
