In this paper we examine the contributions made to each other by Asturian and Romance etymology. The method proposed for Romance etymology by the DÉRom project, namely comparative reconstruction, supposes a considerable change in the orientation of Romance etymological studies. The results yielded by this project are partially based on data and analyses found in the etymological dictionaries of individual Romance languages (idio-Romance etymological dictionaries). In the case of Asturian, the DELlA represents one of the most advanced etymological dictionaries of a Romance language. In this article we analyse how the data and analyses offered in the DELlA contributed to the compiling of the DÉRom entries. We also propose a rewriting of the etymological commentary of a DELlA entry from the DÉRom's methodological point of view. The scholarly dialogue both between idio-Romance and pan-Romance etymological dictionaries and between Romance etymography based on the classic paradigm and the DÉRom, which is based on the comparative method, is most productive. As the DELlA and the DÉRom are both works in progress, this dialogue is apt to yield tangible profits for both projects
