Résumé
The Virgilian episode of Allecto, culminating with the opening of the doors of the temple of Janus by Juno ( Aen. VII, 323-622), is examined with respect to Ennius’ fragment on Discord (fr. X from Annales, book VII, v. 225-226 Skutsch), beginning with Servius’ commentary ad Aen. VII, 622. Several problems are reconsidered in order to dissipate widespread prejudices, such as the chronological reconstruction of events concerning the Discord in the Annals and the negative evaluation of the “division” of the action between Juno and Allecto in book VII of the Aeneid.
