Flavien Villard et al., « Love’s awakening : Adolescent Greek girls playing ephedrismos (“the piggyback game”) », Clio. Women, Gender, History, ID : 10670/1.c59824...
Described by lexicographers and depicted in Athenian ceramics from the Classical Age, the “piggyback game” (ephedrismos) is a game requiring some physical effort. The study of terracotta figurines picturing adolescent girls competing in this game shows that Greek girls could take part in this activity. The research also explores the erotic symbolism these objects could have for the Greeks.
